MELROSE PARK, IL –April 11, 2013 – Stern Pinball, Inc., the world’s leading maker of real pinball games, proudly announced today the availability of the Metallica pinball game. The newest addition to the iconic Stern collection of rock and roll machines honors one of the world’s foremost rock bands. Metallica’s notoriously fast tempos and aggressive musicianship sets the tone for an exciting player experience.

Players will be able to bang their heads and their flippers to 12 classic Metallica hits including “Master of Puppets,” “One” and “Fade to Black.” Other action-packed game features include an electric chair, snake, grave marker and unparalleled magnetic action.

The Metallica game continues both the Stern Pinball and the Stern family tradition of producing quality pinball machines for young and old. The company traces its lineage to Philadelphia in the 1930s when Sam Stern entered the business of operating pinball games. Sam Stern subsequently became part owner and president of Williams Manufacturing, a pioneer in the pinball industry, and passed his lifelong enthusiasm for the game and the business of pinball to his son Gary Stern who founded Stern Pinball. The newest member of the Stern collection memorializes The Avengers, a franchise that has remained a staple in pop culture since it first appeared as a comic book series in 1963. The Avengers will join Stern’s revolutionary line-up of comic inspired machines including X-Men, Spiderman, Iron Man and Batman.

For almost 50 years The Avengers have delighted fans through comic books, television series and movies. Hall of Fame Artist and Designer Joins Stern Team

MELROSE PARK, IL – September 4, 2012 – Stern Pinball, Inc., the world’s only maker of real pinball games, today announced that game designer Greg Freres has joined the Stern Pinball team. With 34 years in the industry, Mr. Freres brings a rich and diverse background in pinball.

A member of the Pinball Expo Hall of Fame, Mr. Freres has created artwork and helped design over 30 pinball, video and arcade games. Among his most recent works is the co-creation of the custom “Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy Melons” pinball game. Other notable games from his design portfolio include: Medieval Madness, Revenge From Mars, Fathom, Elvira and the Party Monsters, and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

In 1978, after earning a degree in Studio Art, Mr. Freres began his pinball career at Bally Manufacturing Corporation where he worked as an artist, designer and art manager until 2008.  Since 2008, Mr. Freres has worked as an independent freelance artist.

 Stern Introduces the $tern Rewards Program for the First Time in Pinball History

MELROSE PARK, IL – August 23, 2012– Stern Pinball, Inc. (SPI), the world’s only maker of real pinball games, in cooperation with the International Flipper Pinball Association (IFPA), today announced the first player rewards program in pinball history. The program will reward dedicated players by providing them with the opportunity to use their rewards to purchase new SPI Premium games at IFPA prices.

The $tern Rewards Program will leverage the IFPA’s World Pinball Player Rankings system to enable players to qualify for the program. For calendar 2012, players that qualify will have the opportunity to redeem their rewards until August 15, 2013. 

Each month the player who has earned the most World Pinball Player Ranking points in the past 30 days will be designated as the IFPA “Player of the Month” and qualify for the rewards program. In addition, each month, the three players who move up the most in the rankings will qualify for the rewards program. Finally, at the end of 2012, the top 250 ranked players will qualify for the rewards prorgam.
