Cupids and Canines
In conjunction with Camp Bow Wow, PAPA will be hosting the second annual Cupids & Canines event on Saturday, February 7, 2009.
There are only two opportunities each year to play at the PAPA Headquarters, and this one will feature a matchplay tournament operated by none other than repeat World Pinball Champion Bowen Kerins. Top prize will be an electromechanical pinball machine.
Cupids and Canines is also a charity event, with desserts & coffee, a chance auction, and a bunch of casino gaming tables where you can win more tickets.
All proceeds benefit Bow Wow Buddies and Pittsburgh-area Humane Societies. Top prize in the chance auction is a trip for two to Las Vegas.

Read all about it at visit their website
We are serious about attracting pinball players. The tournament will accept entrants as early as 11am, and the facility will stay open all night for extra play by pinball fanatics. Please, come out and have a good time!
Of course, the usual 400+ pinball machines, including Batman: The Dark Knight and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, will be on site and available for coin play (all coins to charity).
Admission tickets are required; they are currently available online. Tickets at the door will be sold at a higher price.
Any questions, post here or drop me a note.

Thanks, Kevin

Dutch Pinball Masters

The 2009 agenda of the Dutch Pinball Association has got a new major tournament: The Dutch Pinball Masters (6th & 7th of June).

General idea: challenging players from all over Europe and beyond to steal the Dutch pinball crown!

Visit their Website

Qualification:

  • 64 players will be divided into 8 groups of 8 players.
  • Players will play head-to-head against each other player in his/her group (3 balls per game)
  • Best 4 players in each group advance to the final round on Sunday

Four groups will start
Saturday 6th from 11:00-14:30
the other four will play from
14:30-18:00

The finals

will be played with 32 players in a head-to-head double- knockout bracket. The A-round will be played best-of-three (3 balls per game). The B-round will be one game only (4 balls per game) to keep advancement in both rounds within the same time-range.

Click here to download the schedule in PDF.

- Green matches: Best of three – 3 balls per game
- Orange matches: Single game – 4 balls per game

The winner will receive the title Dutch Pinball Master and a ticket to the EPC2009 in London. Keep checking the website for updates and the definite prize package.

Qualification and finals will be played on machines dating from 1990s to present. A list of tournament machines will be published on the website when available.

Team tournament:

A minor team tournament will be held on Saturday night. The number of teams that are able to compete is limited to eight. Each country is guaranteed one team. Remaining slots will be assigned on 1st May by order of registration. More details will be published on the website soon.

You can register your team by e-mail at EMAIL

- Side tournaments:

To be announced

Registration:

The tournament is limited to 64 players:

  • 28 spots are reserved for Dutch Players
  • 8 spots for Belgian Players
  • 8 per country

Dutch/Belgian players

The top four players from the Dutch regional leagues north, mid, south and the Belgian national league will all be guaranteed a qualification spot (16 players). If the number of registered players on May 1st exceeds the number of available spots, a separate qualification tournament will be held for Dutch and Belgian players on the 9th & 10th of May.

Foreign players

If the maximum of 8 players per country is met, additional players will be put on a reserve list.

If the number of registered foreign players on May 1st exceeds the maximum of 8 per country, but the total of 28 spots is not met, this maximum will be dropped. All of the remaining foreign spots up to 28 will be assigned to foreign players on the reserve list by order of date of registration.

If consecutively there are some of the 28 spots for foreign players left, those will be assigned to Dutch/Belgian players wanting to compete. So make sure you register before May 1st!

Location:

The tournament will be held in our new clubhouse in Ederveen, which offers you approximately 80 pinball machines, ranging from the electro- mechanical to the dot-matrix era. Food & drinks are served at very reasonable prices.

So what's up with the Dutch Pinball Open then?

The Dutch Pinball Masters does not mean the end of the DPO, which is scheduled for November 2009. However, with it's goal of satisfying a large number of both recreational and tournament players, it is uncertain the DPO will return at the scale we used to know. With the Dutch Pinball Masters targeting to offer a fun and challenging competition for tournament players, the DPO 2009 is likely to have its focus somewhat more on the recreational player.

Check the website for more details and constant updates. Any questions, mail to Email

The first day of registration already saw 10 German players and 1 Swiss player register. That rocks! Of course we hope to welcome many more!

IFPA 5 Tournament
----------------------------

July 31-August 2,2009
The IFPA 6 World Pinball Championship will be held outside of London at Pins Anon Headquarters. Assuming we fill the field, the prize package will be over $13,000! Included in that prize package is a New In Box Stern Pinball machine for the winner donated by Gary Stern.

HOW DO YOU QUALIFY TO PLAY IN IFPA 6?

Automatic Bid Qualification

Unlike most tournaments where the qualification process takes place over a couple of days, qualifying for IFPA 6 is taking place RIGHT NOW! (and has been all year). Utilizing it's World Pinball Player Rankings, the IFPA will use the January 1st, 2009 rankings to determine the qualifiers for IFPA 6. The tournament field will consist of 64 players. The top 2 ranked players from each country as of 1/1/2009 will receive an automatic qualifying spot into the tournament. Should either of the top 2 players not be able to attend, that country exemption will move down the country ranking list until it is filled. The rest of field will be made up of the most highly ranked players from the WPPR list, until we have filled 60 spots. For players that cannot attend, spots will be filled by going down the rankings list.

EPC 2009 Satellite Qualification

The 2009 European Pinball Championship will serve as a satellite event for players not yet qualified for IFPA 6 to battle for the 4 remaining spots. This satellite event will be open for any player currently ranked in the World Pinball Player Rankings, but did not qualify for IFPA 6 through the automatic bid process.

WHAT GAMES WILL BE USED IN THE TOURNAMENT?

Tournament games will consist of 16 EM machines (pre-1978), 16 Solid State machines (1978-1990), and 16 DMD machines (1991-present). The game list will be published prior to the tournament so participants have plenty of time to get familiar with game rules and develop a strategy beforehand.
